Many parents and teachers are concerned about the use of magic in the Harry Potter series

Many other parents and teachers love Harry Potter, and there are practicing Christians who fall into both of those camps. I have been on both sides of this issue. This is why I can understand their concerns. I also understand why practicing Christians love the Harry Potter series.

Is it just fairy tale magic, or is it the same magic that’s practiced in the real world?

Is the Magic in Harry Potter different from the stories by Lewis and Tolkien? It seems to me that the magic in fairy tales is the type of magic that is used by both J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis in their stories, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia.

I think the magic in Harry Potter is Fairy Tale Magic

That's what I'll be showing in this series of webinars.

We'll be starting with J.R.R. Tolkien and his definition of the world of Fairy and magic, to understand how he uses magic in The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings

In the second webinar, we'll look at how C.S. Lewis uses magic in The Chronicles of Narnia. We'll look at some of the elements in those stories that can be a challenge in this area.

In the third webinar, we'll look at the Harry Potter series, and compare some of the things that J.K. Rowling does with magic in her stories.

Then, you can make up your own mind,

and either agree or disagree with me

This course includes a discussion forum that will be available after each of the webinars, so we can discuss all three authors and their magical stories. The requirements for the discussions are showing charity towards others, and staying within the topic
